| | How do I change the order of my photos? |
| | | Once you upload photos, you can click the Rearrange Photos button. A pop-up box will appear that lists your uploaded photos. Use the arrows to reposition your pictures. Please be aware that our staff creates your listing (or "thumbnail") photo from the first picture in your list. If you decide to move a new photo into the first position, our staff will need to create a new listing photo for your profile. Until a new one is created, no listing photo will appear on your profile. |
|
| | Why must I provide a description for each of my photos? |
| | | Photo descriptions are necessary because they help us identify which photo we are referring to, in the case we need to contact you about a problem with the specific photo. Also, descriptions help you to explain which individual in the photo is you when there is more than one person in the image.
It's simply easier for other members to understand the world around you if you explain what they are looking at.
We once did not require descriptions for each photo attached to profiles. The complaints from other members was overwhelming enough to create a policy requiring them. |
|
| | What is the maximum file size for uploading photos? |
| | | 3 Megabytes.
In Windows, it's simple to find out how big a file is (image or any other kind of file). Simply right click the file's name, then click Properties. The Properties window will display the exact file size and size in Megabytes (MB). |
|
| | What dimensions must photos be for you to accept them? |
| | | Photos don't necessarily have to be a certain dimension in order for us to accept them. We are more concerned about the file size of each photo (no more than 3 megabytes).
When a photo is uploaded, it is automatically resized to fit our site. Therefore, if a file is the size of a billboard, as long as the file size is no larger than 3 megabytes in size, it will be accepted and automatically resized to be small enough to fit on your profile page.
IMPORTANT: We do, however, reject photos where your face is too small. For example, if your face is clearly visible in a large photo, it is sized down, then, by simple geometry, becomes smaller than anticipated, it will be rejected by our staff. Make sure you crop any unnecessary outside space from your photo, so that your face is not scaled down with a lot of unnecessary items in the image. |
|
| | How do I delete one or all of my photos? |
| | | On the Photos page, you will notice a listing of all the photos you have uploaded (or which we have scanned and uploaded for you). Next to each photo description, you will notice a box. Click the box next to the photo you'd like to delete (a check mark will appear in the box after you've clicked it) and click the Delete Photo(s) button. This will permanently and immediately remove your photo - use caution.
After deleting a photo, all photos in order after the desired photo will be bumped up to a higher position.
WARNING! If you delete a photo which we have scanned and uploaded for you, we cannot reclaim it. All photos send to us through the mail are either returned to the member (if requested) or destroyed. |
|
| | Where on this site do I add my photos? |
| | | Once you log on to our site, click on the tab labeled My Account. Then click on the button below the photo box and you'll be taken to a page to manage your photos. |

| | What are JPG, GIF, and BMP files? How do I get one? |
| | | When storing an image, computers, cell phones, and digital cameras use a specific language setting called a format. The term "format" is simply a way to describe how the image is stored.
As time has gone by, image formats have gotten a lot more advanced. The most common of these formats are JPG, GIF, and BMP.
JPG (pronounced "j-peg") images can be small or large in disk size, yet offer the best quality overall. They are also the most widely used file format for images.
GIF files offer a way to save your files compressed (taking less space to store on your computer), yet do not have the quality attributes of JPG files.
BMP (bitmap) files have high quality, as they are the native format of the computer for which they are created. However, bitmap files tend to be extremely large in file size (storage size), as they identify each little pixel and color to create the image.
Our advice? If you're given a choice of formats when using your photo editing software, always choose the JPG format and you can't go wrong.
Note: Most cell phones save photos in the JPG format by default. |
|
| | Where can I go locally to get my photo into a JPG, GIF, or BMP? |
| | | Most photocopy stores will scan photos and store them on a CD for you.
Our suggestion is to have your photos scanned and stored in JPG (jpeg) format. This is a file format which has a setting to store your photos with extremely high quality. Also, most sites, including this site, accepts JPG files as the "preferred" format. |
|
| | What types of photos does this site accept? |
| | | First and foremost, we do not accept nude photos of any sort. Any member sending us nude photos, electronically or by post, will be removed from the TangoWire network.
If you are uploading photos through our website, we accept JPG, GIF, and BMP files. (See the What are JPG, GIF, and BMP files? help item.)
If you are sending photos via the postal service, we are happy to accept any paper form of a photo which is clear, larger than a wallet sized photo, and does not contain extra graphics, distortion, or anything other members might find offensive.
Your first and primary photo must be of you. All other photos you send us must be related to you and your daily life; such as your children, home, or garden, etc.. |
|
| | If I send you photos, will your return them to me? |
| | | We are only able to return photos to addresses in the United States. If your photos are returned, they will be sent back to you in an unbendable TangoWire envelope, unless you provide your own envelope. |
|
| | Where do I send my photos if I need you to scan them for me? |
| | | Send your photos to:
TangoWire Photos 601 Union Street, Suite 1601 Seattle, WA 98101 U.S.A.
IMPORTANT:
Please print your Member ID and Handle very clearly on the back of each photo. Indicate which photo will be your #1 photo. Separate each photo with a piece of paper to keep ink from the back of one photo transferring to the front of another photo. We cannot scan small, wallet sized photos. Do not enclose your photos in padded or bubblewrap envelopes - they're sure to bend. If you want your photos returned, please indicate with a note. Otherwise, your photos will be destroyed for security reasons. We do not return photos outside the United States and cannot be held responsible if they are lost or stolen. PRINT YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS NEATLY! Because of virus issues, we do NOT accept photos on CD's or floppy diskettes. Photos are usually scanned the same day they are received and you will immediately be notified by e-mail. |
|

|
| | Is it required to have a photo on my profile? |
| | | No. But we will stress that members with photos get browsed up to 15 times more often. In fact, in many search lists, only members with photos appear. Why? Because members with photos appear at the top of all lists. Members prefer connecting with members who have photos attached to their profile.
Did you know? We can scan and upload your photos for you, FREE! (See the Where Do I Send My Photos help topic) |
